Abstract
The purpose of this research was to review experiences of cancer patients who participated in music intervention in Korea. Six journal databases were searched with cancer-related keywords as ¡®cancer¡¯, ¡®anticancer¡¯, ¡®tumor¡¯, and intervention-related keywords as ¡®music¡¯, ¡®music therapy¡¯ and ¡®music intervention¡¯ from 2002 to 2020. After thoroughly scanning all the abstracts searched from the databases, a narrative literature review was conducted on 14 articles that described music experiences of participants from 47 first selected articles confirmed to be relevant to the topic of this study. As a result, first, there were mostly performed case studies on cancer patients, and also shown the higher ratio of participants with terminal cancer. Second, singing activities scored the higher ratio for music intervention for cancer patients, and the activities were devised employing participant-selected songs from preexisting pieces. Third, there was found that cancer patients participated in music intervention experienced reminiscence (situational resources, relational resources), emotional expression (positive and negative), and spiritual experience through music activities. It could be meaningful that this study suggested the direction of further studies by investigating the characteristics of music intervention studies for cancer patients.
